Day 1: Arrival in Havana

  • Casa Particular in Havana

Welcome to Cuba! You’ll be met by a Cubania airport representative in the arrival terminal at Jose Martí International airport and we’ll have a vehicle waiting for you with ample space for bike boxes and luggage. The transfer from the airport to the accommodation for the night is approx. 30-minute drive. This evening you’ll be staying at a ‘Casa particular’ private guesthouse in the Vedado district of Havana.

A member of Cubania staff will visit the casa this evening (exact time to be confirmed with travelers in advance, depending on flight arrival times) in order to have a briefing meeting, hand over all of the necessary documentation, and answer any queries. For late arrivals this meeting will take place on the morning of day 2 at the bike workshop.

Day 2: City Tour Havana by Bike and transfer to Las Terrazas

  • Casa Particular in Las Terrazas
  • Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

In the morning, we will dedicate some time to preparing the bicycles, bike fitting and holding a meeting with the guide to review the programme for the next 7 days, before setting off on a panoramic tour of Havana.

We will begin cycling from our accommodation in Old Havana, riding along the entire stretch of the Malecón. The Malecón is an eight-kilometre sea promenade that borders the northern coast of the Cuban capital, where locals and visitors gather to enjoy the sea, the breeze, and the sunsets.  The malecon leads us to the affluent neighbourhood of Miramar, dating back to the 1950s, home to some of the most striking architectural works of the 20th century in Havana.

We will then return towards Old Havana, cycling through Havana’s Metropolitan Park and Nuevo Vedado (home to Havana’s middle class), before stopping at the Plaza de la Revolución, the centre of the Castro regime. From here, we will cross the youthful and vibrant Vedado towards the famous Hotel Nacional, which has hosted numerous celebrities over the years, including Winston Churchill Frank Sinatra and members of the mafia.

Next, we will quickly ride through bustling Central Havana until reaching the famous Capitolio, a mirror image of Washington’s Capitol. With the Capitolio behind us, we will turn onto the majestic Paseo del Prado, a favourite spot for both street artists and skaters. We will finish the cycling part of our journey at the Plaza de Armas.

From here, we will continue on foot to discover the four beautifully restored colonial squares of Old Havana and stop for lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch, we will return to the casa particular to check out and take a private transfer westwards to the “Las Terrazas” Biosphere Reserve. We will check in at the casa particular and enjoy an included dinner there.

Day 3: Cycling Las Terrazas – Soroa

  • 30 km
  • +644 m / –611 m

  • Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

After breakfast, tour the Community then cycle to San Juan River for a dip in its crystal-clear waters before continuing our journey towards Soroa.

We set off the main road that crosses the Las Terrazas complex, declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. We will pass through the community and its picturesque houses and artisan workshops, and  we will have the opportunity to make a brief stop at the local school and the family doctor’s surgery, symbols of the community project.

We will then continue our journey to the Buena Vista farm, a former 19th-century coffee estate, where we will enjoy the colonial history and the restored ruins of the plantation. It is an excellent place to rest, take photos, and learn about the coffee-growing tradition.

We will return along the same main road, descending through gentle curves until reaching a point where we will turn left to connect with the road that leads directly to Soroa, where today’s ride will end. Soroa is known as the “Rainbow of Cuba” for its famous waterfall and the Soroa Orchid Garden, which houses more than 700 species of orchids. Check-in and dinner at a Casa Particular.

Day 4: Cycling Soroa - Palma Rubia

  • 68 km
  • +690 m / –862 m

  • Breakfast, Packed Lunch, Dinner

After breakfast, we will set off directly from our casa particular for today’s route, which takes us from Soroa to Palma Rubia. This day promises to be a remarkable experience, blending nature, culture, and adventure. The journey covers approximately 68 kilometres, crossing the lush Sierra del Rosario and offering mountain landscapes draped in tropical forests, crystal-clear rivers, and scenic viewpoints. As we progress, the road opens into rural areas dominated by farmland and small farming communities, creating a charming contrast between the region’s wildlife and everyday life.

Along the way, we will pass through some picturesque mountain communities and small towns like Bahía Honda, each with its own local charm and the characteristic warmth of Cuban hospitality. The ride concludes in Palma Rubia, a small fishing port on the northern coast, renowned for its peaceful atmosphere and sea views. It is the perfect place to unwind after the journey, enjoy fresh seafood, and watch the sunset over the waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

Day 5: Cycling Palma Rubia - Viñales

  • 58 km
  • +648 m / –526
  • Casa Particular in Viñales
  • Breakfast, Packed Lunch, Dinner

Early in the morning, we will begin our cycling journey along one of the most picturesque routes of the programme: the “Palma Rubia to Viñales” route. The ride covers approximately 58 kilometres, passing through the typical rural landscapes of Pinar del Río province: tobacco fields, fertile valleys, and mountains draped in tropical vegetation. As the journey progresses, the famous mogotes of Viñales begin to appear—those striking limestone formations of karstic origin that transform the scenery into a unique setting, worthy of admiration and photography for every visitor.

Along the way, we pass through small sugar communities ( Manuel Sanguily ) and charming towns such as La Palma, which offer panoramic views that invite us to pause and appreciate the natural richness of the region before reaching the town of Viñales. The small town of Viñales lies nestled in the valley of the same name, surrounded by the spectacular limestone karsts that characterize this beautiful region of Cuba—a place that captivates with its unique cultural atmosphere, recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Viñales is not only a tourist destination but also a symbol of Cuban identity, where nature and culture blend harmoniously in the land that produces the finest tobacco in the world. Viñales will be our destination for the next two nights, with many venues offering live music and dancing to enjoy in the evenings.

Day 6: Cienfuegos - Trinidad

  • 86 km

Enjoy Cycling day in Viñales.  Today we will have the opportunity to see the finest tobacco fields in the world. We will begin cycling towards the Dos Hermanas Valley, where we will be able to visit the Prehistoric Mural. We will then continue on to the “Moncada” community, located in the Santo Tomás Valley. This community is distinguished by its intramontane landscapes with mogotes, fertile valleys, and extensive caves such as the Great Cave of Santo Tomás. We will return along the same road to the town of Viñales and continue our journey to the ecological farm “El Paraíso”, a unique place that combines sustainable agriculture, Cuban cuisine, and spectacular views of the valley. There we will have time to enjoy lunch and relax while taking in the breathtaking scenery of the Viñales Valley before getting back on our bicycles and returning to the town. Today will be a day to enjoy a cultural landscape recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, along with agricultural traditions and particularly the cultivation of tobacco.

Back in the town we’ll freshen up before heading out to Viñales village to explore the many private restaurants and bars.  Tonight, we will have dinner at a local restaurant.

Day 7: Free day in Trinidad

  • Casa Particular in Trinidad

After breakfast we’ll cycle northwards out of Viñales passing through some beautiful scenery winding between mountains and passing agricultural pastures. The first half of the ride is on paved roads and the second part on rougher terrain. Our cycle ends at Casa Maria, a small farm property in the village of San Andres where we’ll visit their family-run organic farm and have a delicious meal cooked with food sourced entirely from their property.

From here we will have a private transfer that will pick up and take us back to Havana. It is approximately 2.5 hours’ drive back to Havana where we check into to our casa particular and freshen up before heading out to explore Old Havana by night.
